Rockwood
artist portfolio BY Gabby Rockwood
Gabby Rockwood is a Park City, Utah, local who found her love of art through travel and the mountains in her backyard. She loves to discover new ways of looking at art and playing with composition. She has a unique style of incorporating figures into an imagined space using color and texture.
These pieces represent each of my closest friends and how they have impacted my four years at University. I wanted to challenge myself in painting individuals that I knew in spaces that I was familiar with, ridding myself of perfection and focusing on capturing emotion.
The waiting room
Inspired by Nature
Growing up in the mountains, I was drawn to creating art that felt like home. Looking at color, texture, and composition in the trails I run and the chairlifts I ride connects my creative mind to the outdoors.
Denim Designs
Being able to create a piece of art that can be worn proudly to concerts, sports games, weddings and more was such a treat. It felt good to be a part of something bigger than the usual art scene. These jackets would be seen by thousands of people, but they are one of a kind. It felt special to know that each design is unique and hand-crafted with love. Lily Vasey, my boss, started this company and grew it to what it is today, I was honored to play a role in that.
Portraiture
To capture the human face is to capture their being. I have always been fascinated by the beauty and simplicity in each smile and each shadow. I am in the business of replication and detail orientation.
The Bigger the better
It goes without saying everyone likes bigger, but is bigger really better? After years of painting inside the lines on canvases, I thought I would start to branch out as anything can and should be decorated. Walls, campervans, shoes anything I could get my hands on. Even though it takes a heck of a lot more paint, and twice as much time, bigger can be better and can push your creativity out of the box.
